COMMUNITY SERVICE

Homework Program Tutor January – April 2019

Sacred Heart Education Center, Diocese of San Jose

I volunteered here once a week, working with K-8 students, most of which spoke English as a second language or were ELD students, allowing me experience with the curriculum of different grade levels, as well as giving me tools to work with English Language learners.

Northern California Innocence Project Workshop Leader November 2018

I worked as an assistant instructor for a weekend of storytelling and public speaking workshops for exonerated prisoners — mostly BIPOC who had been wrongfully incarcerated. We helped these incredibly courageous men and women develop the tools they might need to re-enter the world and to share their stories in the fight against injustice.

Summer School Assistant Teacher June – July 2018

Saint Francis High School

I worked in a history classroom with incoming freshmen, helping the teacher to plan lessons, in addition to pulling students out during class time to work one-on-one on their writing skills, in order to prepare them for high school level writing assignments.

English Language Development Tutor March – June 2018

Adrian Wilcox High School, Santa Clara Unified School District

I volunteered twice a week in this school’s English Language Development program, helping students one-on-one with reading and writing. Most of these students knew very little English, most of them having just moved here from countries all over the world. This allowed me the opportunity to develop skills for working with English language learners in a classroom.

Community Volunteer   August 2014 – 2018

3Strands Global, Sacramento CA

Collaborated with a team to plan large community events to fund rehabilitation for human trafficking survivors. Assisted with sales, customer service, venue mapping, and volunteer training.
